Kumasi, Oct 25, GNA – The Ashanti Regional office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) recorded a total of 1,780 cases last year.
Out of the number, the Commission was able to resolve 1,168 of the cases, leaving 612 for last year to be solved.
Mr. Augustine Anane Quebah, the acting Regional Director of CHRAJ who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi at the weekend, said the Commission recorded 890 cases for the first half of this year out of which 685 has been resolved.
Giving the breakdown of the various cases, Mr. Quebah said labour related cases or administration of justice cases topped the list with 772 cases, family related cases followed recording 510 of them and property related cases totalled 449.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of co-operation the Commission was enjoying in the region and attributed this to the sustained education the Commission was giving the public.
Mr Quebah said the numerous cases that had piled up at the courts could be brought to the minimum if people came to the Commission with their cases for resolution, adding, “It is not every case that must be sent to the courts.”
He therefore asked the public to have faith and confidence in the Commission since it deals with all cases reported to it judiciously and expeditiously.
The acting Regional Director’s only problem was with logistics for the Commission to carry out its educational functions as it wanted particularly in the districts where the District Directors were not mobile to reach out to the people more.
