Obuasi (Ash), Nov.18, GNA- The Reverend Monsignor Augustine Bioh of the Obuasi Diocese of the Catholic Church, has called on politicians and other stakeholders in Election 2004 to be guided by the virtues of tolerance in their electoral campaigns, to ensure national cohesion. Rev. Bioh was speaking at a forum organised by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Obuasi, to mark the International Day of Tolerance, which was on the theme: “Tolerance – The Human Rights Perspective”.
He urged Ghanaians to strive for peace and not allow themselves to be influenced by politicians to engage in electoral malpractices. Mr Emmanuel Kofi Antwi, Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, asked the electorate not to vote for politicians who were fond of using abusive language against their political opponents, stressing: “Let us judge them by their campaign messages”.
The Obuasi Divisional Police Crime Officer, Mr Wisdom Lavoe warned the public that the destruction of party symbols and paraphernalia constituted a serious electoral offence. Mr A.C.K. Adjagrah, Municipal Director of CHRAJ advised the youth not to yield to any pressure to engage in political violence.
