CHRAJ holds workshop on code of conduct for public officers

Kumasi, Aug. 4, GNA – The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on Tuesday held a consultative forum on the draft code of conduct for public officials in Kumasi. The forum, which was attended by Heads of Government Departments; Agencies, Institutions and Directors of various organizations, provided the platform for the participants to deliberate and make inputs into the document.

Mr Richard Quayson, Deputy Commissioner, Anti-Corruption and Education Department of CHRAJ, said the objective was to provide guidelines and principles to improve public life. He said it was also to re-assure the public that those holding public office could not use their position to pursue their selfish ends. Mr Charles Anyimado, Director of the Commission In-charge of Anti-Corruption, said the event formed part of efforts to develop systems and strategies to promote integrity, probity and accountability in the public service.

“It is also to build and sustain public capacity to combat corruption and related misconduct of Public Service Workers”, he said. Mr Anyimado said the Code was generic and that after its completion, public agencies, bodies and institutions would have to develop their in-house codes to conform to the general code. Mrs Janet Fofie, a member of the Public Services Commission, said efforts would be made by the Commission to make the Code a living document for public officers and to enhance voluntary compliance.
