CHRAJ disowns arrested treasury head

Deputy Commissioner at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Joseph Akanjoluer Whittal, has denied claims that a staff of the commission has been arrested by the BNI over the Commissioner’s housing scandal.

Media reports had it that Sonny Eric Adinyira was picked up by the BNI a week ago for questioning over some financial issues, which Whittal told STARR TODAY have nothing to do with CHRAJ.

He described the report as one of many media speculations that reflect badly on the Commission’s work and mandate.

“He was not a staff of the commission, he is a staff of the controller and accountant general on secondment to CHRAJ”, he clarified.

Whittal said Adinyira “worked in the treasury department of the commission for a while”. He said Adenyiria has been absenting himself for some time, but his absence and the BNI’s involvement cannot be tied to his unit.

“The allegation for which he is being investigated has nothing whatsoever to do with his work at the commission. It’s unfortunate that there are strenuous efforts to link his arrest to whatever is happening at the commission.”
