CHRAJ cautions against child neglect in Techiman

Techiman, July 20, GNA – The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has recorded unfair treatment and child neglect as some of the common human rights violations in the Techiman Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The second quarterly report of the municipal office of the Commission, for 2004, indicated that 42, cases of unfair treatment were reported, 37 cases for children and spousal neglect and 27 for tenancy related matters.

The report issued by Mr Kwasi Asante-Boateng, Municipal Director of CHRAJ covered issues like salary arrears and interstate succession. The report said out of the 145 cases that were brought before the Commission, 40 were successfully resolved through arbitration, leaving 97 pending.

It expressed concern about the rate at which parents in the Municipality are shirking their responsibilities towards their children.
