Bawku (U/E), Feb. 16, GNA – There was a shortage of chocolate at Bawku on Valentine Day as people thronged selling points in search of the product.
Valentine Day, which hitherto was associated with lustful sexual escapades, has caught up well with the youth and elderly alike when the day was declared National Chocolate Day.
Condom that used to be in higher demand during previous Valentine days was relegated to the background.
The shortage of chocolate in Bawku forced the price to go up. The large size, which normally sells at 10,000 cedis, was sold at 15,000 cedis whilst the medium size’s price of 5,000 cedis went to 10,000 cedis.
Three major supermarkets that the Ghana News Agency visited said they run out of stock at about 0900 hours but customers kept trooping in, even in the night, in search of the item. People did not go in for foreign chocolates because they claimed they did not like the taste.
However, the day turned sour for revellers as the Volta River Authority (VRA) switched off power and this prevented entertainment at the Community Centre from coming off.
