Chirano Gold Mines awards scholarships to 60 pupils

Sefwi-Chirano (W/R), Oct. 19, GNA – The Chirano Gold Mining Company at Sefwi-Chirano in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District has awarded scholarships to 60 children in the three paramountcies within its catchment’s area under its educational assistance programme. The paramountcies are the Sefwi-Wiawso, Chirano and Anhwiaso.

Mr William Plyler, General Manager of the company, who presented the scholarships at a ceremony at Anyinase on Monday, announced that the awards, which were in two categories, were subject to withdrawal in the case of poor performance and indiscipline.

He said the beneficiaries of the scholarships, who enter senior secondary schools will have their fees paid in addition to the provision of books and other materials by the company, while those in the primary and junior secondary schools will have their fees paid, provided with school uniforms, bags and shoes.

Mr Plyler appealed to the people within the mines catchment’s areas to co-operate with the management of the company so as to ensure their welfare.

Mr Roland Ewool, Human Resource Manager of the company, urged the chiefs, community leaders and opinion leaders in the area to assist the company to operate in an atmosphere of peace and understanding. Nana Frimpong Manso III, Chief of Sefwi-Paboase expressed appreciation to the company for initiating the programme.
