Chinese businessman fined for smoking on board aircraft

Accra July 7, GNA – A Chinese businessman who was caught smoking cigarette in a lavatory of an aircraft was Monday sentenced to a fine of 90 Ghana cedis by an Accra Circuit Court.

Zhi Xiao, who came to the court with his interpreter, was being held for smoking on board an aircraft.

He pleaded guilty and the court convicted him accordingly. Police Chief Inspector Ben Darfour told the court, presided over by Mrs. Georgina Mensah-Datsa that the complainant was the Captain of Kenya Airways flight No. KQ 509.

Zhi, boarded the aircraft which was on transit to Monrovia, Liberia through Ghana to Kenya.

Chief Inspector Darfour said on July 2, this year, Zhi was seen at one of the lavatory smoking cigarette after the flight had landed in Ghana.

Zhi was therefore handed over to the Police at the Kotoka International Airport Police Post.
