China would continue to deepen relations with Ghana – Ambassador

Accra, Aug. 20, GNA – Mr Gong Jianzong, Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China, on Thursday reiterated his country’s commitment to deepen diplomatic relations with Ghana, established more than fifty years ago, for the benefit of their people.

Mr Gong, who was speaking at a reception he hosted for members of the Diplomatic Corps, members of the Ghana-China Friendship Association and Chinese nationals resident in Ghana, said China and Ghana had so many things in common and that it was beneficial for both countries to continue to work together.

Describing China as a developing country, Mr Gong said Chinese assistance towards equipping Ghanaians with the requisite technological knowledge would continue and announced that a number of Ghanaians have been awarded scholarships to go and study in China.

China and Ghana established diplomatic relations during the First Republic under Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Unlike other diplomatic relations that were on government to government basis that between Ghana and China extended to people to people relations.

Chinese Prime Minister Chuo En Lai visited Ghana in the 1960s and many Ghanaians named their sons after him.
