China donates mosquito nets to Foundation

Accra, Dec.6, GNA – The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ghana, Mr Zhang Keyuan on Wednesday donated a large quantity of mosquito nets to Infant Malaria Prevention Foundation (IMPF), a local nongovernmental organisation (NGO) in Accra.

Ambassador Keyuan in an address said the donation was to help to prevent malaria in Ghana and to strengthen the bond of friendship between China and Ghana.

He said China would soon build more malaria prevention and treatment centres in Ghana and supply anti-malaria medicines as well. He recalled the speech by the Chinese President Hu Jintao delivered at the Beijing Summit and Third Ministerial Conference of Forum on China – Africa Cooperation and said steps would soon be taken to begin work on the selected proposals.

They included the training of African professionals, establishment of a five billion-dollars development fund for Africa and additional five billion dollars for Africa in the fields of trade and investment.

The Chairperson of IMPF, Mrs Akuffo Addo, who received the nets, thanked the Embassy for the assistance and called for a closer relationship between her organisation and the Chinese Embassy. She gave the assurance that the mosquito nets would be distributed to the poor at no cost and asked for more assistance. 6 Dec. 06
