Accra, Aug. 19, GNA – Mr Wang Lushan, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, on Tuesday pledged the Chinese Government’s commitment to provide scholarships, training courses and other forms of assistance to Ghana.
The assistance, he said, was to help the Ghana Government to bring up the human resources needed for national development in the era of global technological advancement.
Mr Wang Lushan said this at a farewell reception for 75 Ghanaian students who have been awarded Chinese Government Scholarships to pursue undergraduate and graduate courses in selected Chinese universities. He urged the beneficiaries to focus on their studies whilst in China to achieve the objective for which they were awarded the scholarship.
Mr Wang Lushan said: “It is my sincere hope that when you graduate from China, you will not only apply what you have learnt to build a better Ghana, but also serve as ambassadors of friendships between our two countries.”
He said the Chinese Government had provided short-term training opportunities for about 700 Ghanaian officials, professionals and technicians since 2006, under the spirit of Sino-Africa Cooperation on Education.
In the same spirit, he said, the Chinese Government had built three rural model schools in the Greater-Accra, Central and Western Regions to foster teaching and learning in Ghana and expressed the hope to do the same in the remaining regions.
He drew attention to China’s political and socio-economic achievements, which he said, had made China one of the world’s economic giants. Mr Fuseini Lansah, Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, in an address for him, admonished the students to distinguish themselves in their various fields of study to merit the financial investment made in them. He urged them to be law-abiding and to return home after the programme.
Mr Halid Mahama, representative of the students, thanked the Chinese Government for granting them the scholarship and promised to conduct themselves in accordance with the laws and traditions of the Chinese people.
