Children’s education needs investment – Okyenhene

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene and the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, has called for children’s education to be made a priority and investment provided to secure the future of the next generation.

He said under no circumstance should a child be denied access to education irrespective of the background of that child.

He said as leaders, they owed it a responsibility to ensure that every child had the best of education at the basic level.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin Osagyefo Amoatia said this at the 40th anniversary celebration of the enstoolment of Okuapemhene, Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa as part of this year’s celebration of the annual Okuapem Odwira Festival at Akropong- Akuapem.

This year’s anniversary was celebrated under the theme, “The relevance of chieftaincy in modern Ghana”.

He appealed to leaders in the country to build and improve upon the success of their predecessors to help promote faster development of the various traditional areas.

He called on Ghanaians to collaborate and promote unity, peace and development that would attract and serve as a guide to other nations.

Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa urged communities to select leaders who could inspire and motivate them to ensure peace, security and protection against external aggression.

He advised king makers to follow the established traditions in their areas for enstoolment, eskinment and installation of chiefs and queen mothers to avoid chieftaincy disputes.

He called on government to strengthen the capacity of chiefs to play complementary role in local governance.

The Okuapemhene called for support for the construction of an Akuapem cultural resource center which would include a museum, audio video center an open court and a research library.

President John Dramani Mahama, former President, Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential aspirant, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were at the durbar.
