Children Viewing Porno On Internet, Min. Worried

Hon. Nana Akomea, Minister for Information has requested operators of cyber cafes to declare their premises as ‘Zero Tolerant for pornography access’ to help to discourage children and teenagers from using them to source pornographic material.

In a press release signed by the Minister yesterday, the government has noted with concern the easy access to pornography in cyber cafes by children and teenagers in the country, which has been on the rise lately.

“Some of these pornographic materials find their way onto pages of some tabloid newspapers in the guise of sex education but which indeed, only serve as a source to further deprave these young ones, most of whom are aged between 12 and 17 years.

“It is worth noting that teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS are completely non-existent in pornography. On the contrary, studies show that the continued access to pornographic material leads to an increase in teenage pregnancy, promiscuity, violence and such sexually transmitted diseases as AIDS”, he lamented.

The Ghana Journalists Association and the National Media Commission are urged to respectfully bring to book newspapers that seek to use their pages to promote Pornography, the Minister suggested.
