Children under single parents, a big threat to society – Evangelist

Ho, June 12, GNA – An evangelist with the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Ghana on Saturday warned that the increasing number of children in Ghana leaving under the tutelage of single parents was a big threat to the social stability of the country.

Mr. Ebenezer Teye, Deputy National Director for Education of the Fellowship was speaking to the Ghana News Agency during a day’s convention for children and Sunday School Teachers from all churches in Ho.

He said frustration from deprivation, lack of attention and sense of neglect could make such children vent their anger on society by engaging in petty crimes.

Mr. Teye, therefore, called on churches to develop outreaches to assuage such negative feelings in the children, and give them a sense of belonging.

Mrs. Elsie Anaglate-Oddam, Volta Regional Director of the Fellowship on her part slammed materialism among Ghanaians, as a result of which many parents were hardly available to guide their children to grow into responsible adults.

She said the early exposure of children to good societal values could make them resist the temptation of crime and prostitution.

The children attending the convention would be educated on HIV/AIDS, while their Sunday School Teachers would share ideas on ways to improve techniques of imparting good morals to children.
