Children educate parents on the effects of child labour

Accra, June 7, GNA – Children from the Accra Royal Junior Secondary School (JSS) on Tuesday through drama sent many parents of Ga Mashie community to tears when they depicted how insensitive some adults maltreated and abused them.

The Parents and guardians at the end of the drama advised the protagonists in the play on how to treat children. The programme dubbed “Stop Child Labour Interactive Theatre”, is to use drama to educate parents about the effects of child labour as part of activities to celebrate this year’s World Day Against Child Labour, which falls on Monday, June 13.

The programme organized by the Centre for Community Studies, Action and Development, (CENCOSAD), a non-governmental organization that advocates against child labour, is under the theme: “Stop Child Labour in the Mining and Quarrying Industry”.

Mr Joseph Ekow Gilberts, Project Officer, told the GNA that children could be a powerful tool for educating the society to effect changes hence the use of interactive theatre in educating the communities.

He said the programme would be extended to other communities in the Greater Accra Region and urged parents to get actively involved in the programme.
