Child protection committees told to step up activities

Bibiani (W/R), Oct. 30, GNA – District and Community Child Protection Committees have been urged to step up their campaigns to rein in child labour in society.

Miss Mercy Atta-Tutu, Bibiani Ahwiaso-Bekwai, District Social Welfare Officer, who made the call, also told the Committees to ensure that children enrolled in schools continued their education. Speaking at a day’s workshop held by the District Child Protection Committee at Bibiani on Friday, she said Committee members must do more to track child exploitation and abuse in their respective communities. The workshop provided the platform to discuss and map out strategies to fight worst forms of child labour in the cocoa growing areas.

Miss Atta-Tutu said everything must be done to help people to appreciate the need to disengage children from all forms of hazardous work.

She added that they should pull together to provide young ones with the necessary protection and create the right conditions for their growth and development. 3
