Child of the Light School holds graduation

Child of the Light Basic School has marked its third graduation in Accra, with a call on parents and guardians to instill discipline in their children.

Mrs Faustina Opoku Yeboah, former Greater-Accra Regional Manager of Catholic Schools, who was the Guest Speaker, noted that a high sense of discipline was needed for one to be useful in life.

“No personal success can be achieved without discipline,” she said.

Mrs Opoku Yeboah, a retired teacher with over 35 years experience, pointed out that discipline did not necessarily mean being introverted, limited and restrained, but meant learning to focus on goals until they were achieved

She encouraged parents to make efforts to fulfill their financial obligations to schools.

The out-going school prefect, Miss Felicity Owusu Nyarko, who expressed the graduates’ gratitude to the teachers, reiterated Mrs Yeboah’s call with the Akan adage that beautiful things have to be bought with money.

The school graduated five girls from the Junior High Level – its second batch, and 32 delighted children from the kindergarten, who entertained the gathering to various poetry recitals and songs.

Twelve outstanding pupils were awarded for academic performance, and three for good conduct.

A section of the pupils who had been receiving training in the Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS), were also awarded medals after demonstrating their arithmetic prowess.

The Headmaster, Mr Emmanuel Ohene-Kena, said the school with a population of 300, was focused on high moral training, with the hope that children would have internalized discipline by the time of leaving.
