Vice president Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has called for peaceful succession to the various stools and skins in Ghana since chieftaincy disputes disturb public peace.
According to him, the money spent on conflict resolution could be used by the government for development. He prayed the chiefs to help preserve the peace that the country is currently enjoying, since Ghana remains the bastion of peace in the sub-region.
He has therefore called on kingmakers to ensure that the rightful persons are installed to avoid chieftaincy disputes which usually stall development.
Amissah-Arthur made the admonition during a meeting with a high powered delegation from the Kpembi traditional area led by the Lepowura of the Kpembi Traditional area, Alhaji Mohammed Nuru-Deen Jawula at the Flagstaff House. The delegation was there to inform him about the demise of the late Kpembiwura Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna chief of Kpembe and overlord of Salaga town.
The vice president commiserated with the people of the Gonja traditional area, saying the passing of the great chief “is a loss to all”.
He described the late Haruna as a “mentor.”
“I have had long association with the Kpembi Wura. He was one of the mentors, and was full of advice and counsel,” Amissah-Arthur said.
He was hopeful that the Kpembi Wura successor would be able to continue with his good works, including the projection of Kpembi.
Among the dignitaries present were Alhaji Osman, Deputy National Security Coordinator; the Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Abdullah Abubakari; the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mrs Joyce Mogtari; and some district chief executives and the President of the GYA, Mr. Alhassan Dramani.
