Chiefs To Demonstrate Against NPP

Duodu, Dunkwa on Offin Barring any intervention, chiefs and queen mothers of the Denkyira district area are expected to hit the streets at Dunkwa-on-offin today to embark on a peaceful demonstration against the parliamentary primary of the party New Patriotic Party (NPP), expected to be held today.

According to the traditional rulers, their action has the full backing of the Youth Wing of the NPP in Upper Denkyira Constituency. They have subsequently presented a petition to the President requesting for his urgent intervention before matters get to a head. In the said petition, Nananom, contended ?we the Nananom of the Denkyira State have observed gross disrespect by some executives of the ruling NPP, especially the constituency chairman-Mr. Atta Denteh.?

According to the petition, about a year and half ago, the constituency chairman refused to honour their invitation when Mr Denteh was accused of assaulting the District Chief Executive for the Upper Denkyira District. The chiefs again said Mr Denteh once said he has entire Denkyira state in his palm like an egg, an utterance the chiefs said was a big insult to the people of Denkyira.

According to the chiefs, when they impressed upon the constituency chairman to withdraw, apologise and appear before the Denkyira Traditional Council for his untoward behaviour, Mr Denteh refused. Numerous representations made on the conduct of the NPP chairman, to the national executive council of the NPP, the chives disclosed were also not responded to.

Speaking at a press conference at Dunkwa-on-offin to announce the intended demonstration, a spokesman of the chiefs, Nana Ota Panin II, the Denkyira Dabehene, also said based on the behaviour of the constituency chairman, they reject the candidature of one Nana Amoako, a.k.a Burger, the man being backed by Atta Denteh. Instead the chiefs said they support the candidature of the other constant challenging Nana Amoako, Rev. Dr. Akwasi Owusu-Bi, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology (KNUST) in today?s primary.
