Apam (C/R), Sept. 23, GNA – Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Philip Gamiah, the immediate past District Police Commander for Gomoa, has called for mutual cooperation between the police and traditional leaders to promote peace in communities.
DSP Gamiah said chiefs are leaders in communities including areas without police stations and, therefore, could play vital role to augment the work of the police in tracking down miscreants. Mr Gamiah made the call at a farewell party organised for him by the Gomoa West District of Command at Apam on Sunday.
DSP Gamiah is retiring from the Ghana Police Service after 38 years of national service.
He advised police personnel against too much familiarity with the public since that had the tendency of compromising their work. Madam Joyce Aidoo, the Gomoa West District Chief Executive commended Mr Gamiah for his contribution towards the peace and development of the district.
The new district commander, DSP Owusu Berkoh, gave the assurance that the police in the area would continue to ensure pace in the area. The Chief of Apam, Nana Efrim X, who chaired the function, appealed to presidential candidates of the various political parties in this year’s elections to control their supporters to maintain peace and tranquillity in the country.
