Nana Ansa Kwao IV, the chief of Akwamu Adumasa has waded into the old age controversy surrounding the involvement of chiefs into politics.
Speaking Wednesday on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, he said: “It’s wrong for chiefs to be involved in politics…I’ve always condemned it…People respect us because of our position and we need to be gentle.”
But even though, article 276 Clause One of the 1992 constitution states that a chief shall not take part in active party politics and any chief seeking election shall have to abdicate his stool or skin, the same constitution provides for traditional leaders to be appointed to public office positions.
He also dismissed the myth surrounding the celebration of Akwasidae.
“God created different customs, traditions in his own wisdom…unless we’re saying he made a mistake by putting us here..there’s no blood involved with Akwasidae…it’s just about the Chief sitting down and discussing issues with his people after every six weeks,” he said.
