Chiefs enact law to protect girls

The Gomoa Adaman Council of Chiefs in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region has enacted by-laws that make it an offence for men to impregnate school girls in the town.

Nana OKotwere Bekoe, Chief of Gomoa Ada and Apagyahene of Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, made this known at the celebration of the annual Ahobaa festival at Gomoa Ada.

He said the by-laws are aimed at protecting girls and reduce the high incidence of teenage pregnancy and promote girl-child education.

Nana Bekoe said the by-laws took effect from March.

He appealed to assembly members, opinion leaders and stakeholders in education to assist in the implementation of the by-laws.

The Apagyahene asked the Ministry of the Interior to investigate group hunting activities currently on the ascendancy in the area and posing insecurity threat to farmers.

He said the hunters made up of retired military and police officers are armed with sophisticated weapons, making it very difficult for farmers to challenge them.
