Akuma (B/A), Aug. 30, GNA – The chiefs and people of Akuma in Nkoranza district have called on the District Assembly to support them to provide accommodation for police personnel in the area to replace their rented facility.
Mr. Ahmed Gyabaah, Assembly Member made the appeal on behalf of the community when Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive, paid a maiden visit to the area at the weekend.
Mr. Gyabaah said the people had started working on the project, estimated at several millions of cedis but the community could not bear the cost of the building alone. He commended the Nkoranza-Kwabre Rural Bank for providing some bags of cement for the project.
Mr. Gyabaah called on the Assembly to provide a three-classroom block for the local Junior Secondary School, which is a centre for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the area. The Assembly Member described the wooden bridge over River Pru in the area as a death trap for the people who carry headloads of their food produce to cross it to Nkoranza.
He appealed to the Assembly to construct a permanent bridge to save the lives of the people and to facilitate their movements and the conveyance of their goods to marketing centres.
In a related issue at Brahoho, Mr. Joseph Barfi-Kodom, Assembly Member, appealed to the Assembly to provide the people with two places of convenience to enhance sanitation in the community. Mr. Barfi-Kodom expressed gratitude to the Assembly for providing a six-classroom block for the local Methodist primary school. Mr. Appiah-Awuah advised the youth to bury their political differences and forge ahead in unity to initiate development projects that would bring improvement in their lifestyles.
The DCE urged Assembly Members, unit committees, traditional rulers and opinion leaders to render selfless services towards the development of their areas.
“Communities should adopt the ‘Do it ourself’ policy and initiate more development projects to attract support from the Government and NGOs”, he added.
Mr. Appiah-Awuah urged parents to place a high premium on the education of their children.
