Chiefs asked to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS

Gbanjong (NR), Sept. 8, GNA – The Tolon/Kumbungu District focal person for the National Health Insurance Scheme, has asked Chiefs and community opinion leaders, to use their influence in society, to educate the youth to abstain from habits that leads to the spread of the HIV/AIDS.

Mr Adam Haruna Meisuna, made the appeal when he addressed an HIV/AIDS sensitization forum, at Gbanjong, a farming community in the District, on Wednesday.

Pupils from neigbouring Yobzeri, Vawagri, Kuglogu, Nlaalaayili and Gbanjong took part in the forum which was organised by the Gbanjong Area Community, a community-based organization in collaboration with the Ghana Aids Commission.

Mr Meisuna said the involvement of chiefs in the fight against the pandemic, would impact positively on the lives of the people. The community Chief, Gbanjong-Na Dawura Anyass, called on stakeholders in the fight against the HIV/AIDS, to be role models of moral behaviour, to help stem the spread of the virus.

In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Alhassan Baako, the District Chief Executive, advised parents to wield a positive influence on their children to prevent them from going wayward.
