Winneba, (C/R), Sept. 10, GNA – Two District Chief executives in the Central Region have suggested to traditional rulers in the country to fashion out effective revenue mobilization strategies to complement the efforts of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to better the lot of the rural communities.
Such a move would help the assemblies achieve their revenue mobilization targets and facilitate implementation of vital development projects that would be initiated by the assemblies and various communities within their jurisdiction.
It would also make the impact of the chieftaincy institution greatly felt by the citizenry, when the people see that their chiefs were actively involved in the collection and effective utilization of funds by the assemblies governing their traditional areas. Mr. Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye, District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, and Mr. Job Acquah Markin, District Chief Executive for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, were speaking at separate functions at Winneba and Abura-Dunkwa, respectively.
Making the suggestion during interaction with newsmen at Winneba at the weekend, Mr. Abbam-Quaye expressed the hope that chiefs in the area would seriously consider the policy and support the district assembly’s efforts to mobilize enough revenue to develop the district. He reminded the chiefs that it was only through their collective efforts that the nation’s socio-economic transformation could materialise, adding that the central Government and the various assemblies alone cannot solve the problems facing the nation.
Addressing the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District Assembly at Abura-Dunkwa, Mr. Job Markin also re-echoed the need for chiefs to play their partnership roles in national reconstruction efforts and entreated chiefs in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese district to accept the challenge to initiate programmes to propel the assembly to help achieve more development for the area.
