Chief urges youth to get right with the law

The Atafoahene of Pankrono in Kumasi, Nana Kwadwo Arhin II, has urged the youth to be disciplined, repudiate vandalism and other acts of lawlessness.

He said it was important for all to get right with the law to ensure peace in the society.

The call comes amid tensed relations between the youth of Pankrono and Adabraka Zongo communities, which often explode into bloody clashes.

Nana Arhin at a meeting held to promote dialogue and aid the two sides to overcome their animosity said violence would only hold back the progress of the area.

The meeting had been organized by an NGO, Sustainable Integrated Development and it brought together, the chiefs, Imams, assembly member, members of the unit committees, opinion leaders and the youth.

He reminded parents to live up to their responsibilities to their children to shield them from bad peer influence.

They need to spend quality time with the kids and closely supervise them, he added.

Mr. Kofi Opuni Appiah, Coordinator of the NGO, said there could not be progress without peace and that is why all should work together to reduce tension.

They should do everything to prevent any form of conflict in the community and accept to live in total harmony.

He also encouraged the people to be bold to report all criminal activities to the police to bring those who break the law to justice.
