Chief urges youth to engage in agriculture

Akumsa-Domase (B/A) Dec. 7, GNA – Nana Kwabena Osei II, Chief of Akumsa-Domase in Nkoranza district has advised unemployed youth in the area to engage in agricultural activities to become self-sufficient.

Speaking at a meeting with the people at his palace during the celebration of the annual “Munufie Kese” yam festival, the chief deplored the practice by, especially some youth to roam in the streets without engaging in any productive work. He asked the youth to avoid the smoking of ‘wee’, alcoholism, and engaging in illicit sexual practices, which he said could have adverse effects on their lives.

Nana Kwabena called on parents to minimize their huge expenses on clothing, funerals and other unproductive social activities and rather to invest their resources in the education of their children. Nana Osei advised the youth to take their education seriously to be able to acquire gainful employment and to become responsible citizens. He called on the people to promote love, unity and cooperation among themselves so they could share ideas to enhance the development of the community.

The people should not allow themselves to be divided by partisan politics as that could affect the development of the area. Nana Abenaa Boahemaa, Queenmother, advised parents to offer the necessary support and encouragement to their girls to further their education so as to promote female education. She urged the girls not to enter into early marriages but rather to take their education seriously to become responsible women and wives of responsible men. Nana Abenaa cautioned the youth against pre-marital sexual practices to free themselves from contracting HIV/AIDS. She said the traditional laws on puberty rites were still relevant in the area and cautioned that any girl who became pregnant without going through the rites would face the corresponding punishment.
