Gomoa Nkoranza (C/R), Dec. 21, GNA – The Odikro of Gomoa Nkoranza and Sanaahene of Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, Nana Abobo Egyir IV, has identified lack of effective supervision and inadequate teachers and textbooks as the cause of falling standard of education in the country. Nana Egyir who is also an educationist and proprietor of a private school at Gomoa Ankamu, said the inability of some parents to meet the needs of their wards was also to blame for the poor standards of some of the schools.
He expressed regret that some school projects being funded from the Social Investment Fund (SIF) a few years ago had been abandoned in the Gomoa District thereby frustrating efforts to improve on studies in the affected areas.
The chief appealed to the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, as well as other stakeholders, to collectively help to address the situation.
Meanwhile, a survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency has revealed that the Gomoa District Directorate of Education lacked adequate teachers and urgently required at least 130 teachers to fill up the classrooms.
