Cape Coast, March 08, GNA – The chief of Adukrom near Gomoa Fetteh and three others were on Tuesday granted a total bail of 320 million cedis with a surety each for allegedly assaulting three policemen at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
Nana Haruna Akpakli Ocansey, 48, pleaded not guilty to abetment of crime while Mohammed Ocansey 27 and John Amanor Ocansey 26 both masons and Mukaila Ocansey 20, farmer, pleaded not guilty to assaulting public officers and causing unlawful harm.
They were each granted 80 million cedis bail and would reappear on April 01. The court, presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, also bonded them to be of good behaviour for the duration of the trial and ordered to report to the police weekly.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court that on March 03, one Mr Robert Amakwandoh reported a theft at the Gomoa Fetteh police station and the station officer detailed three policemen to go and arrest the accused persons.
When the policemen got to the village they did not meet them but on their way back to the police station, Mohammed, John and Amanor, attacked Corporal Albert Abu with a cutlass and sticks fitted with nails.
He said the other two policemen, Corporals Ali Katebo and Emmanuel Acquah went to the aid of their colleague but they were also assaulted and were rescued by the people in the village. Chief inspector Azasoo said the people assisted the policemen in arresting the accused persons and in their statements they mentioned Nana Ocansey as the one who asked them to attack the policemen. 08 March 06
