Chief Rejects Chieftaincy Minister

THE NOMINATION of Dr Henry Seidu Daannaaa, a visually impaired lawyer, as Minister for Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, is being opposed by a chief in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The paramount chief of the Seikwa Traditional Area, Nana Kwaku Dwomo Ankoana II, who publicly protested the nomination of the visually impaired lawyer, yesterday told Sunyani-based Ark FM that it was an abomination to choose a physically-challenged person to lead a chieftaincy institution.

The Seikwa chief stated that chieftaincy was a sacred institution which should be revered by all and kept against acts that sought to denigrate it.

According to him, chiefs in the country deserved better by getting what he termed a person without any blemish to head the sector as a minister.

He therefore appealed to President John Mahama to immediately change Dr Daannaaa by reassigning him to a different ministry to appease chiefs in the country.

Nana Dwomo Ankoana, who is a standing member and project committee member of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs and Member of the Asanteman Council, also called on chiefs in Ghana to openly condemn the move since all traditional leaders in the country knew that it was against the customs and traditions of the land to appoint a physically-challenged person to either become a chief or lead a chieftaincy institution in Ghana.
