Accra, Aug. 25, GNA – Nii Nikoi Jonas, Chief of Nkwantanang has appealed to the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA) to help stop the encroachment of lands earmarked for developmental projects in the community.
He described as worrying, the increasing rate at which the lands of the town was being taken over by private individuals and “estate developers”.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, Nii Jonas said the town would be left with virtually no land for the construction of schools, hospitals and other social amenities, if the Assembly did not act swiftly to protect their lands. Nii Jonas also expressed worries about the activities of traders who had taken over the Local Authority Basic School. He said the traders not only disturb academic work but also contribute to the poor sanitation due to the offloading of their wares at the school compound.
“Every street is being blocked with kiosk’, he said, adding that, this had even made it very difficult to walk during the night. The chief said several “appeals have been made to the assembly but these seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. He expressed the hope that the Assembly would this time hear the clarion call of the people and act immediately to save life and property.
