Chief of Defence Staff receives Noble Awards

Accra, July 8, GNA- The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Lieutenant General Joseph Boateng Danquah was, at the weekend honoured with a Nobles International Award by the West African Nobles Forum (WANF) for being an eminent and exemplary West African.

The West Africa Nobles Forum, a non-governmental organisation that pools together prominent West Africans of sublime achievements, conferred the award on him.

The CDS was also given a certificate of membership of the WANF. A citation on the certificate read: “In recognition of your status as a bonafide member of West Africa Nobles Forum, having been an eminent West African who uphold the virtues of honesty, integrity and accountability”.

Dr Otibu Asare, Executive Secretary of WANF, who presented the award to the CDS said WANF in the last four years have embarked on the enlistment of members, while identifying and re-organising men and women of proven integrity and reputation in the sub-region, with the hope that such honesty will be replicated and emulated by others in society. The WANF, he said, have been creating awareness, sensitising the people, especially the youth, on their rights and their place in God’s arrangement.

Lt-Gen. Danquah on his part said he was humbled by the award and gave the assurance that it would be a motivation to make him work harder for the country.

He said: I dedicated myself to serving the country, little did I know that others were watching my achievements”. The CDS dedicated the award to the officers and men of the GAF and appealed to Ghanaians to think first and foremost about the country in whatever job and whatever capacity they find themselves to move the nation forward.

“It is our collective responsibility to build the country. Nobody would come from anywhere to build it for us. We should all endeavour to do our best for the country so that posterity would not judge us”, he said.

The WANF has over 700 members cut across West Africa. It aims at promoting integrity, honesty and accountability, contribute to policy formulation of governments, and help fight the ills of society.
