Chief of Brakwa destooled

Nana Yamoah IV, Chief of Brakwa in Ajumako Traditional Area in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District in the Central Region, has been destooled for misconduct. He ruled for 32 years.

Customary rites to signal the destoolment were performed on July 28, at Brakwa. Two sheep were slaughtered; one at the palace and one at the roundabout in the centre of the town. Two bottles of schnapps were also poured for libation. The stool on which he sits at a gathering at the open compound at the palace was turned upside down.

The letter sent to the Omanhen of Ajumako Traditional Council whom the Brakwa community owes allegiance, dated August 4, and signed by the Ebusuapanin Kobina Ebo, Nana Yaa Asnatewaa III, Queen mother and four others of the Royal Asene Number One Family as kingmakers, were copied to the District Police Command, the chiefs and family heads.

Among the allegations levelled against Nana Yemoah were constant violations of rules, regulations, customs, conventions and norms of chieftaincy institution. He was also disrespectful to other sub-chiefs and elders in the family and the community.

The claims also listed misappropriation of stool, family funds and royalties and failed on several occasions to respond to invitations by the kingmakers for advice and reform.

Nana Yemoah, for almost one year had vacated the palace and sought refuge elsewhere without the consent of the family head and elders of the family. Additionally, Nana Yemoah was recalcitrant for reconciliation with the Queen mother, Nana Yaa Asantewaa III.
