Zebilla (U/E), May 10, GNA- The Chief Justice, Mr. Justice George Kingsley Acquah last week ordered the immediate transfer of 12 employees of the defunct Community Tribunal at Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
He said at a time that the service was undergoing major restructuring; it would not be practicable to continue to pay people for no work done. He stressed the need for idle hands to be moved to areas where their services are needed.
The Chief Justice gave the directive when he paid an unannounced visit to Zebilla, in the Bawku East District as part of a day’s working tour of the Upper East Region to inspect courts and interact with workers of the judiciary service.
At Bawku, Mr Justice Acquah urged the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Abdul-Rahman Gumah to resolve the impasse that is delaying the construction of a new court premises for the area.
He stressed the need for Municipal and District Assemblies to provide courts as well as offices for the judiciary to make sure the vast majority of the people have access to justice.
Mr Justice Acquah was not happy about the dilapidated building, which houses the judiciary service in the municipality.
He praised the Bawku circuit court judge, Mr. Nathaniel Osam for living up to expectation, in spite of the deplorable court environment. The MCE, Mr. Abdul-Rahman on his part, said the Municipal Assembly would strive to do its best to find solution to the outstanding problems holding up the construction of the court premises.
