Chief Imam cautions politicians

Sheikh Abdul Muumin Haruna, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, has advised political actors and party members to refrain from using intemperate language that has the tendency to create tension and violence.

He stressed that inflammatory and abusive language that could bring disaffection and intolerance should be jettisoned in the campaign arena due to its potential to breach the current prevailing peace in the country.

The chief Imam was speaking at the installation of Alhaji Amadu Owusu, as Asante Nkramohene (sarkintuba) of Kaase community, a suburb of Kumasi.

He called on politicians to address important social issues that confront the educational sector, housing, water and labour force in Ghana.

He emphasized that the country needed people who would look at issues not with “jaundiced” but clear eyes to enable them prescribe achievable positive goals the country.

In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Owusu, the new Kaase Asante Nkramohene, promised to work with the chief and the youth leaders to maintain peace at all times.

He also echoed calls admonishing the youth to desist from igniting tension in the country since it could derail the gains so far made by hard-working law-abiding citizens and eventually destroy precious lives.

The occasion was graced by the representative of Asokwa MP, Mrs Patricia Appiagyei, the chief and the Assembly Members of Kaase.
