Chief, four others arrested over murder of retired teacher

A sub-chief at Sewfi-Anhwiaso in the Western Region, and four others have been arrested for allegedly murdering a 68-year-old retired teacher in his farm.

The five, Nana Donkor who is the Abakomahene of the Anhwiaso Traditional Area, Yaw Adu, Kwaku Ntim also known as Killer, Kofi Nnuro and Kofi Jamal alias Attah, face murder and abetment of murder charges.

It is unclear the motive behind the murdering of the retired teacher, Samuel Benson Kwakye, as the Police in Bibiani are currently investigating the case.

The Bibiani Police Commander, Superintendent Nana Kumi who confirmed the arrest of the five suspects to 3News said on completion of investigations, the suspects would be put before court for prosecution.

He told 3News Thursday that on April 20, the assembly member for the Anwhiaso electoral area reported to the Police that the retired teacher went to his farm that morning and did not return.

The assembly man told the Police a search team was formed by the people in the town to look for the retired teacher and only found his body buried in his own farm. “So we went to the scene and took the body to the mortuary and the scene inspected.

Later the Police had information that two suspects – Adu Yaw, and Kwaku Ntim aka Kille – were behind the murder,” Supt. Kumi said. According to the Police, three days after the murder incident, the two suspects fled the town to Agona Asaman in the Ashanti Region hence the Police sought assistance from their counterparts in that town.

On May 9, the Police managed to arrest the two who were transported to Bibiani. During interrogation, they mentioned the sub-chief, Nana Donkor, as the one who hired them and the two others, Nnuro and Jamal to murder the retired teacher.

They were subsequently arrested and are currently in Police custody.
