Chief Farmer calls for rehabilitation of Nsawam-Aburi road

Mmodenbor (E/R), May 1, GNA – Opanyin Kwasi Ofori, a chief farmer at Mmodenbor in the Akuapem South District of the Eastern Region, has appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the Nsawam-Aburi road to ease transportation and carting of foodstuffs. He said the road was in a very deplorable state making travelling very difficult, dangerous and frightful to commuters while it took drivers two to three hours to travel it. Opanyin Ofori made the appeal at a farmers’ and drivers’ meeting to discuss the generation of f unds to support self-help programmes at Mmodenbor at the weekend.

He said drivers plying the Nsawam-Aburi road have suffered for far too long and that because of the deplorable nature of the road, they plough all that they earn back into the repair if their vehicles. Opanyin Ofori therefore called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to take immediate steps to come to their aid because the rainy season which was just about to start would worsen the situation. The Chief Farmer said the state of affairs was also affecting the farmers in the area since they could not convey their farm produce to the marketing centres for sale in order to get money to pay back their loans.
