Worakese (Ash), Feb. 16, GNA – Nana Agyei Kwame II, Chief of Worakese in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district of Ashanti has expressed concern about the poor performance of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in the town.
The school scored zero percent at last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Nana Kwame blamed parents for the abysmal performance of the pupils, saying that they did not properly monitor and supervise their wards. Instead, they allowed them to watch television and play table tennis at nights at the expense of their studies.
Addressing a durbar of his people at Worakese on Sunday to climax the celebration of their “Kohwe Kose” festival, Nana Agyei Kwame said he would liase with the district assembly to enact a by-law to ban children from going out after eight in the evening as a means of compelling them to learn at night.
He also called on School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to co-operate with teachers to find a solution to the problem and adopt a strategy that would help improve upon education in the entire district.
Nana Agyei Kwame asked the people to be vigilant and not allow politicians to deceive them with money to buy their votes during the forthcoming general elections.
He commended the government for its commitment to rural development and mentioned in particular the construction of the Ejisu-Bekwai road, which he said, would help open up the area and facilitate the carting of foodstuff to urban centres.
Mr Joseph Kwasi Assuming, presiding member of the assembly, who is also the assemblyman for Worakese, cautioned the people to be vigilant this dry season against bushfires, usually caused through errors by humans, including hunters and palm wine tappers.
