Chief/elders harassing female teachers

Bokor Korpke (W/R), Sept. 17, GNA – Nana Kofi Imbeah, acting Shama District Director of Education, has cautioned the chief and opinion leaders of Bokor Korpke to desist from harassing female teachers who are posted to the town.

“I will not hesitate to transfer the teachers if you do not stop making their work difficult,” he stressed.

Nana Imbeah said this when he toured some schools in the district on “My First Day at School on Tuesday”.

He stressed that the Bokor Korpke Basic School would have been closed down following the refusal of female teachers to accept postings to the community, due the persistent love advances made by the chief and elders towards them when they are posted there.

“Teachers are willing to serve the country irrespective of the status of the community and instead of you assisting female teachers to settle comfortable in the community, you continue to propose love to them and those who refuse are constantly harassed,” he said. Nana Imbeah reminded them that the teachers were there to help the pupils to improve on their education.

He advised the teachers to have self confidence, and generate the love and joy of teaching for national development. He challenged them to strive for excellence, since their promotion will be based on their performance.

He entreated heads of schools in the district to also try to motivate their teachers with special packages. “Teaching is a calling, so those who find themselves in the classroom because they had no alternative work should be ready to make room for those who are committed for the work,” he said. He also visited the Aboadze Islamic School and the Aboadze Catholic School where cups, caps, erasers and pencils were distributed to the children. 17 Sept. 09
