Kumasi, Sept 27, GNA – Nana Otuo Sereboe, Omanhene of Juaben Traditional Area, has denounced extravagant and grandiose funerals, which are debasing the country’s time honoured customary practices and usages.
He said besides, such funerals left in their wake families saddled with huge debts sometimes to the detriment of children and widows of the deceased.
Nana Otuo Sereboe, who is also a member of the Council of State, was inaugurating the refurbished office of the State Insurance Company (SIC) and the launching of a new product dubbed “The SIC final Journey Plan”, a funeral plan in Kumasi on Friday.
The product is designed to assist people to plan towards their own funeral cost to avoid financial burden on their families. The policy is renewable every year and covers a number of both the nucleus and extended family, members of associations, groups, staff of institutions and organisations.
Nana Otuo Sereboe urged traditional rulers and the various Houses of Chiefs to encourage their people to take advantage of the policy to ensure that their members, friends and relatives get dignified and decent passage to the ancestral world.
Mr Peter Osei Duah, Managing Director of SIC, said the refurbishing of the Kumasi office was in line with the company’s policy of giving its customers a comfortable service to enhance their work.
