Nkrankwanta (B/A), Jan. 26, GNA – The Chief of Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa District, Nana Kwabena Asemia has appealed to the police and the judiciary to act fast to stem the ‘unwarranted’ spate of motor accidents in the Nkrankwanta township.
Nana Asemia was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkrankwanta following a second fatal accident in the town within four months which killed a 70-year old farmer and injured his two wives on their way to the farm.
Nana Asemia condemned excessive speeding and reckless driving within the town ever since the town’s roads have been tarred.
He described as worrying and provocative, instances where drivers and other road users who have orchestrated the loss of precious life and property were often seen loitering freely and interacting with others in the society as if they have not caused the death of others.
He gave an example of a remorseless driver who crashed four traders to their untimely death in an accident along the streets of the town last year, but still walks the length and breadth of the district, saying such situations further aggravate the public’s low confidence in Ghana’s justice system.
According to him, unnecessary delays in prosecuting motor accident defaulters constitute potential grounds for violent reprisals from bereaved relatives and irate mobs.
