Chief calls for the re-introduction of Workers Brigade

Oyibi (GAR), Aug. 19, GNA – Nii Boye Okansha VI, Chief of Oyibi near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region has called on the government to reintroduce the Workers Brigade to train the youth in skills that would facilitate their employment.

He said the Workers Brigade, which operated during first republic, would help reduce unemployment and offer work to the youth on farms and other productive areas rather than what pertains now where the youth are involved in the cyber fraud, which had become their pastime. Nii Okansha made the call in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Oyibi on Wednesday.

He said the youth, who are the future leaders, are now indulging in all forms of crimes to make ends meet. Nii Okansha advised the youth to also take their education seriously to enable them to help in the development of the nation. He appealed to the Ga East Municipal Assembly to provide the community with more schools to ease the overcrowding in schools in the community.

The Chief also appealed to the government to open a bank in the community to help his people to “cultivate the habit of saving.” He advised politicians to always let their utterances bring about peace and unity to ensure national development.

Nii Okansha said the situation, where “political parties were at each other’s throat anytime there was an election”, does not augur well for national development.
