Chief calls for re-introduction of quota admission system

Cape Coast, March 10, GNA – The Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, has called for the restoration of the quota system in school admissions to boost the intake of local candidates. He said the replacement of the quota system with computerized selection was making it difficult for potential students from the Cape Coast metropolis to gain admission in schools in the area. Osabarima Atta expressed these sentiments when the Central Regional Minister, Madam Ama Benyiwa-Doe, paid a courtesy call on him at the Oguaa traditional council offices.

He appealed to the Minister to help enact bye-laws to revive discipline among the youth, particularly to drive school children to stick to their books and shun unproductive engagements. Osabarima Atta told the Minister that indiscipline among the youth had been a source of worry to the Council. He also called for the relocation of auto mechanics whose activities he said had led to the pollution of the main lagoon. Osabarima Atta pledged the Council’s support towards accelerating the development of the metropolis.

In her remarks, Madam Benyiwa-Doe promised to hold talks with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast to find ways to improve the performance of Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates from the area.
