Chief calls for more cocoa sheds in Takoradi

Shama (W/R) July 28, GNA- The Omanhene of Shama Traditional area, Nana Kweku Binnah II, has called on government to provide more cocoa sheds in Takoradi to store several tonnes of cocoa from the hinterland to the port.

He made the appeal through Papa Owusu Ankomah, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister and some New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentarians who were in Shama on Monday to attend the Shama constituency NPP delegates’ congress.

Nana Binnah commended the government for embarking on the mass cocoa spraying exercise, which he said, has improved the yield of cocoa farmers.

He however expressed concern about the way a number of articulated trucks loaded with cocoa had been left at the vagaries of the weather due to lack of more warehouse facilities.

He said the abandonment of the cocoa in the rains could affect the quality of cocoa the beans.

He appealed to the government to order Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to acquire land near Takoradi to construct more warehouses. Papa Owusu Ankomah and Mr. Aidoo assured the Omanhene that his concern would be addressed.
