Chief calls for early completion of project

Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, the Chief of Asokore- Mampong has called on government to expedite action to ensure the early completion of the affordable housing project, which has been abandoned in the area.

He said the completion of the project will help ease pressure on accommodation in the Municipality and stem the perennial flooding, since people are compelled to build in water ways due to lack of accommodation.

Nana Debrah, who made the call when Nana Oye Lithur, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection and Mr.Alexander John Ackon, her Deputy paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Asokore Mampong, on Tuesday.

The Minister was at the Asokore Mampong Municipality to assess the effect of the recent floods in the area on women, children and other vulnerable groups who reside at Aboabo, a flood-prone area in the Municipality.

She also made donations of food items and clothing to the victims of the flood.

Nana Oye Lithur will also supervise the registration of some 500 aged people, who are above 60 years in the Municipality unto the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Nana Debrah said the abandoned housing project had now become a den for criminals, who are terrorizing residents in the surrounding communities.

He stressed the need for the Municipal Assembly to plant trees and develop a green park along the banks of the River Pelele at Aboabo, to prevent the dumping of refuse into the stream – an act identified as contributing to the flooding.

He also tasked the Assembly to always remove the debris left on the banks of the river after its de-silting to prevent it from getting back into the river.

Nana Oye Lithur told the Chief that she was at the Municipality to sympathize with the victims and provide some relief items to ameliorate their sufferings.
