Chief assists amputee

Akim Swedru (E/R), Sept 14, GNA – The Safohene of Akim Bosome Traditional Area, Nana Obeng Asiedu, has presented a Universal Care brand of wheelchair to Madam Phelomina Awisabo, an amputee, to help facilitate her movement.

Nana Asiedu explained that in view of the disaster that befell the 50-year-old woman, it behoved the general public and other benevolent organisations to assist her.

On December 19 last year, at about 1930 hours, while Madam Awisabo was selling bread on a veranda in front of her house at Akim Swedru, a commercial vehicle from Akim Aduasa veered off the road as the driver lost control of the vehicle and crushed Madam Awisabo.

She fell unconscious and was rushed to the Akim Oda government Hospital where her right leg was amputated.

Nana Asiedu who is resident in the United States of America (USA), is the Director of the Need’s Hope For The Future, a non-governmental organisation based in USA and with branches in Ghana.

He expressed the optimism that the wheelchair would help to alleviate the recipient’s suffering.

He said the gesture formed part of the NGO’s regular responsibility of caring for the disabled and the aged in society.
