Kotokum (Ash), Sept. 3, The 50-metre long bridge on River Offin at Kotokuom in the Atwima District is on the verge of collapsing. The supporting pillars of the bridge, constructed in 1958, have deve loped dangerous cracks and are likely to cave in if not rehabilitated. Nana Kofi Nti, chief of Kotokuom, after conducting Mr Peter Yaw Mens ah, the District Chief Executive round, appealed to the government to ensure its urgent rehabilitation. According to him, the collapse of the bridge would not only cut off a number of communities from the district but also lead to the locking-up o f cocoa, rice and maize which the people have produced in large quantities. The communities that would be worst hit include Kyenkyentaa Number O ne, Akonkye, Iyenkyentaa Number Two, Huntado, Apatratom, Barimayenakrom, Koko briki and Kwasimanukrom. Others are Saakrom, Apenimadi, Katakywa, Ataso, Anyinase, Kotokuom a nd Nhweremu. Mr. Mensah who was on a working visit to the area expressed concern about the poor state of the bridge and promised to liase with the Ministry of R oads and Transport to help save it from collapse
