Chief advices citizens against HIV/AIDS

Awutu Bereku (C/R), Sept. 6, GNA – Nai Wyettey Agyemang Otabil III, Paramount Chief of the Awutu-Bereku Traditional Area, has cautioned the people of the area to be wary of the HIV/AIDs pandemic, saying that it is dangerous and has no respect for personalities.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency before the commencement of the Awubia festival at Bereku, he urged the people should refrain from casual sex so as to protect themselves from contracting the disease.

The festival was celebrated under the theme, “Development and Progress.”

Nai Otabil said the festival would afford them the opportunity to reflect on the development of the area, and cautioned the people against negative tendencies such as drug abuse and fighting that could mar the beauty of the festival.

He further advised them to conduct themselves creditably so that they would not fall into the hands of the law.

Stating the significance of the festival Nai Ncharakey Okain VI, Adontenhene of Awutu Traditional Area and Chairman of the festival planning Committee, said it served as a forum to evolve strategies to combat hunger.

Highlights of the festival include HIV/AIDS awareness walk and sensitization, indoor and outdoor games, quiz and essay competition for basic schools on development Projects and Programme in the area
