Chemical sellers cautioned against selling expired drugs

Agona Swedru (C/R), Aug 1, GNA – The Central Regional Director of Pharmacy Council, Mr Clement Sambo has warned chemical sellers to stop selling restricted drugs to avert causing health hazards to innocent persons.

He said the Council would deal drastically with any chemical sellers, who would be caught in the act.

Mr Sambo gave the warning at a day’s workshop organised by the Central Regional branch of the Council for Chemical Sellers drawn from Agona, Gomoa, Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Ajumako and Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Districts.

He said the Council had embarked on massive campaign to educate chemical sellers on the need to refrain from indulging in such illegal and dangerous acts.

The Regional Director said the Council found it very difficult to detect these restricted drugs in the shops of the sellers because they hid them.

Mr Sambo said because of the constant training for the sellers, they had started appreciating and the understanding the need to refrain from selling the dangerous drugs.

He stated that the Council has realised that the majority of the chemical sellers were rendering good services to the people in the rural areas, saying that it had stopped drug peddlers, who were going about selling fake drugs.

Mr Sambo said these drug peddlers in the rural areas posed serious threat to the health of the people. He called on the government to support the activities of the Council, especially the training of the chemical sellers, to enable them to update their knowledge.

Mr Francis Acquaye, Chairman of the Swedru Zone of the Association of Chemical Sellers, expressed appreciation to the Council and other sponsors of the workshop.

He said that the members had learnt a lesson on how to handle the drug business and urged the people to buy drugs from only licensed chemical sellers.
