Tema, April 19, GNA- The Tema Municipal Directorate of Education, has adopted stringent measures to ensure that this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) would be concluded without any malpractices.
It has therefore employed the services of 16 circuit supervisors and four senior education officers to go round the 34 examination centres to monitor the conduct of the examinations. The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Lucy Kwapong who made this known in Tema, said all the centres had been provided with police personnel to maintain law and order.
According to her absenteeism of some candidates were due to death, sickness, school dropout or pregnancy.
Mrs Kwapong cited an example of a candidate who had been operated upon and was on admission.
When Ghana News Agency visited the Twedease JSS Centre, 2119 students had registered with four of them absent, while the Oninku Drive Number one Centre had three out of the 377 candidates registered absent. The Supervisors at the Twedease Centre mentioned the problem of shading as a major problem some candidates were facing.
At the Our Lady of Mercy Senior Secondary Centre, 262 candidates had registered for the exams and two of them were absent. The Supervisor, Mr Prosper Ashiagbor said he had not received any official reasons for the absence.
